Eau Claire (WQOW) - UW-Eau Claire has finalized a new smoking policy. In December of 2010, a recommendation was made by the university senate to issue a campus-wide tobacco ban.
The student senate disagreed and recommended designated smoking areas. Chancellor Levin-Stankevich sided with the student senate and created a task force to suggest smoking and non-smoking areas.
Smoking is now prohibited on campus except on city-owned streets and 18 locations on campus.
Those locations include:
1.The loading docks at: Brewer/Campus School/Zorn Arena, Davies Center, Hilltop, Haas Fine Arts (west loading dock), Human Sciences & Services, Maintenance/Central Stores, McIntyre Library, McPhee, and Phillips Hall.
2. Hibbard – north side near Custodial shop;
3. Nursing – south side near base of ramp;
4. The shelters east of Towers Hall, north of Horan Hall, south of Sutherland Hall, and south of Putnam Hall.
5. Chancellors Hall - west side near dumpsters;
6. Sutherland Hall - north side firepit.
The university is calling for voluntary compliance. Unlike UW-Stout, there will be no fine at this time if someone smokes in a non-designated area.
