Dunn County (WQOW) - Frac sand was the focus of a meeting in Dunn County Thursday night.
The Town of Menomonie Plan Commission held a listening session about Vista Sand. The company from Texas wants to build a sand transfer facility in the town. Sand would be trucked in from a mine in Downing where it would be loaded onto rail cars at the site.
About 90 people were at the meeting on Thursday night. Those who were there said about 20 made comments, mostly opposed to the project. Concerns were raised about traffic and dust.
The county has a moratorium on frac sand mining projects right now. That moratorium runs through July. The plan commission did not make a recommendation one way or another Thursday night.
