Douglas County (WQOW) - The fire danger is still listed as 'high' across much of the region and now firefighters will now have some extra help if a forest fire does break out.
Twelve inmates at the Gordon Correctional Center in Douglas County have just completed the DNR's fire training class. That included forty hours of classroom training, and hands-on training putting out a controlled burn. DNR firefighters now have twelve extra men to assist in the event of a forest fire. State corrections officials say residents should not be concerned, because the inmates are carefully screened and will be under supervision.
