New DMV location in Eau Claire

Posted:

Eau Claire (WQOW)- The Department of Motor Vehicles hopes to get the word out about a second office in Eau Claire.

A new DMV office opened in the state building on Clairemont Avenue in January. An item in the state's two year budget required all counties to have a DMV office open at least 20 hours a week. Eau Claire has another office, but it's located in Chippewa County.

The DMV says since the new location opened it hasn't seen the traffic it was hoping for.

"We're hoping that would take some of the load off the five day sites and we've seen at times it has and other times it hasn't. I believe just that we've got to get the word out to the community that all these additional expansion sites have opened up," says Mark Porter, DOT program supervisor.

The Clairemont location is only open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7a.m. to 5 p.m. Residents can go there for driver's licenses, state photo ID cards and disabled parking tags. They can also give driver's tests.

For more information on the additional site locations and their hours you can visit the Wisconsin Department of Transportation web site. There's a link to that website under the "More Information" heading to the right of this story.

Address of the new location:

Eau Claire South service center
Eau Claire State Office Building
718 West Clairemont Ave.
Eau Claire, WI 54701
