Madison (WQOW)- Job growth numbers Governor Walker made public earlier than normal have been verified by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
A spokesman from the Department of Workforce Development told the Associated Press that the BLS has confirmed Wisconsin jobs grew by more than 23,000 in 2011. That number, which was reported by the DWD earlier this month, is based off reports from 96 percent of employers across the state.
It was a big change from what the BLS originally reported. The federal agency recently said the state lost almost 34,000 jobs in 2011, ranking Wisconsin the worst in the nation. That survey was based on information from three and a half percent of the state's businesses.
Walker had released the data from the DWD focusing on job gains two weeks ago, before the BLS confirmed them, which was an unusual move.
