WASHINGTON (WKOW) -- Safety officials are recalling about
35,000 high chairs over concerns the tray can detach, increasing a child's risk
of getting hurt.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the
recall Tuesday. Officials say the recall involves Evenflo convertible high
chairs, sold nationwide from December 2011 until now. The high chairs were sold
at Toys "R" Us and Walmart stores and online at Walmart.com and Wayfair.com for
about $40.
The CPSC says the recall involves Evenflo high chairs that convert from a
high chair to toddler-size table and chair.
The
concern is over the activity tray on the high chair. Officials say it can unexpectedly
detach, causing an unrestrained child to fall, and possibly get hurt.
Consumers
with a recalled high chair should immediately stop using it, and then contact Evenflo
(online or
by phone 1-800-233-5921) for a replacement tray.
