MADISON (WKOW) -- Police say a 20-year-old suspect in last month's shooting in downtown Madison was arrested Wednesday near Chicago.

Shots were fired into a crowd in the early morning hours of May 19 on the 600 block of University Avenue. Three people were hurt, but did not sustain life-threatening injuries.

Madison police say detectives got a tip and traveled to Chicago to arrest a Darrion Brown of Fitchburg, on a tentative charge of attempted homicide.

Madison police worked with Cook County Sheriff's detectives to execute a search warrant around 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at a Dolton, Illinois residence. Dolton is located between Chicago and Gary, Indiana.

Officials say Brown was taken into custody without incident and a handgun was recovered. He is being held in Cook County until he is extradited back to Wisconsin.

Madison police say 22-year-old Derek Cannon was arrested back on May 24 for his role in the shooting. Cannon is now in the Dane County Jail.

While Brown was being sought on the tentative attempted homicide charge, he is charged with three counts of the lesser crime of recklessly endangering safety.

Court documents state Brown responded to being punched in the face by opening fire with a handgun.

Documents state Cannon fired four gun shots with several hundred people in the vicinity.

Authorities say three other people have been arrested for allegedly obstructing the police investigation.
