MADISON (WQOW) -- An advertisement to publicize Wisconsin as a place to do business is scheduled to appear in the Wall Street Journal, USA Today and other publications Monday, on the heels of national attention for Governor Scott Walker's successful run in a recall election.
Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation chief executive officer Paul Jadin says the ad buy has been planned for some time. But Jadin said Walker's victory in Tuesday's recall election raised Wisconsin's profile considerably, and gives officials the chance to capitalize on the exposure the Badger state is getting.
Officials said the advertisement campaign's $109,000 cost is being funded by 38 different business groups, including Madison-based Thrive.
Jadin said Wisconsin's progress in lowering taxes and easing regulatory burdens makes the state competitive with its neighbors in attracting businesses and jobs.
Officials said the ad-placement will run in the regional editions of the national publications.
Sen. Glenn Grothman (R-West Bend) said the end of gubernatorial and senate recalls give existing Wisconsin businesses certainty as they plan business strategy.
"They know for the next two and a half years, you're not going to have anti-business extremists in charge of the regulatory agencies. I also believe you're going to have expansions almost immediately."
During the recall campaign, Walker maintained the specter of the recalls was a paralyzing factor for many small businesses.
Walker has pledged to create 250,000 jobs during his four year term. State data shows more than 23,000 jobs were created in Wisconsin in 2011. It's a job creation pace that would leave Walker short of his jobs goal in four years.
