Floating toilets make debut near Somerset

Posted:

Eau Claire (WQOW) - Boaters and anglers on a western Wisconsin river now have a convenient place to make a pit stop.

A floating toilet has just been placed in the Saint Croix National Scenic Riverway near Somerset.

Last year, state Senator Sheila Harsdorf authored legislation to allow the toilets after learning that boaters and anglers were using an island as a restroom. She called it a severe problem, a serious health issue, and not very tourist-friendly.

Several other similar toilets are on the Minnesota side of the river near Stillwater. One has a solar-powered lift to help disabled people get from their boats to the bathrooms.
