(WQOW) -- A severe line of thunderstorms moved through the Chippewa Valley around 5 a.m. Tuesday morning.  The storms packed heavy winds near 55 mph, rain and lightning. Hundreds of homes are without power Tuesday, after lines were downed.

As of 7 a.m., Xcel Energy's online outage map showed nearly 290 homes without power in the Eau Claire area, 350 homes without power in the Chippewa Falls area, and near Lake Wissota, nearly 500 homes without power.  Crews are out working to get everyone back online.  The expected restoration time is between 10 a.m. and noon on Tuesday.

Police have been called to a number of areas in Eau Claire with downed power lines.  If you should come across any this morning, do NOT approach them.
