Eau Claire (WQOW) -- For a second straight night, the Express builds a 4-run lead over the Rafters, but Eau Claire winds up on the losing end of a 1-run game.

Wisconsin Rapids edges the Express, 8-7, in front of 1,726 fans at Carson Park.

Eau Claire gets a 3-run homer from Ryan Shober, and a 2-run blast from Nick Addison as part of a 15-hit attack, but it's not enough to overcome the Rafters' 14 hits.  The Express also adds to its Northwoods League-leading error total with two more defensive miscues.

Steven Carabajal gets tagged with the loss, after giving up two runs on four hits over 1 1/3 innings.

The Express has now lost 12 of its last 15, leaving manager Dale Varsho frustrated by his team's inability to close out games.

"We had a chance to bury them," says Varsho about Tuesday's loss to the Rafters, "we had bases loaded twice, couldn't get anything through. Ty [Forney] bounced into to double plays in good positions to hit the ball. You know just little things keep dominoing effect to us. It seems like we kind of just give it away the next inning. We don't hold the lead very well at all and usually it's walks, hit batters, or the defense. It's frustrating to watch"

Eau Claire will look to salvage one game of the series Wednesday night, when the teams play at Witter Field in Wisconsin Rapids.
