Bloomer (WQOW) - Plans are starting to take shape for a new school in Bloomer.
In April residents narrowly approved a referendum to build a new elementary school. It will replace an aging and overcrowded school. School representatives have toured seven other schools in the region looking for the best features to incorporate into the new building.
This week the school board approved the site plan and preliminary design. The 92,000-square-foot school will look similar to a hub with four spokes. It includes numerous skylights and windows. That's aimed at cutting energy costs and providing a warmer, friendlier learning environment.
Construction of the $17.5 million project is slated to begin late this fall with the school opening in fall of 2013.
