New Marquette poll shows Thompson, Obama leading races

Posted:

Eau Claire (WQOW) - A former Wisconsin governor is coming out on top in a recent poll.

The latest Marquette Law Poll shows Tommy Thompson with the advantage in an August Republican primary for U.S. Senate.  34 percent of voters say they favor Thompson.  16 percent favor Congressman Mark Neumann.  One-quarter of those polled say they are undecided.

As for November's senate race, Thompson holds an eight point lead over Democratic challenger Tammy Baldwin.

The same poll also shows the race for the White House is getting closer.  In May, President Barack Obama had an eight point advantage.  Mitt Romney has closed the gap slightly, narrowing it to 49 to 43.

The poll interviewed more than 700 voters from June 13-16.
