Chippewa Falls (WQOW) - A sand plant makes changes to enhance worker safety after a federal government citation.
A few months ago, EOG was cited over air quality inside its Chippewa Falls sand plant. The Mine, Safety and Health Administration says the plant electrician was exposed to a level of silica dust that exceeded what's considered to be safe in the workplace. The citation carried a $100 fine.
In the citation, the inspector does not classify the violation as significant and says an illness is unlikely. However, the inspector also says if therewasan illness, it's reasonable to expect it to be permanently disabling. WQOW News 18 contacted MSHA for clarification on that, but has not heard back.
An EOG company spokesperson released the following statement, "EOG is working with an expert industrial hygiene consultant to resolve the issue that resulted in a citation from MSHA. As a result, plant procedures have been adjusted to provide additional employee protection inside the plant buildings."
