TWO RIVERS, (AP) -- Manitowoc County authorities who engaged in a frantic search for a missing woman with Down syndrome are relieved to report a happy ending.
The 20-year-old was at a family event Saturday evening when she disappeared. Her family called police, and told them the woman is drawn to water and will hide if she's scared.
Two Rivers police called in resources from throughout Manitowoc County and began a full-scale search.
A witness reported seeing someone fitting the woman's description walking along a river. Officers checked the area without success.
Eventually a canine handler made a second search and radioed that he saw movement and heard moaning coming from across the river. Police found the woman clinging to a rock in waist-deep water.
She was examined at a hospital but wasn't hurt.
