WASHINGTON (WKOW) -- Have you ever wondered how babies view their brand
new world?
Researchers writing in the "Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences"
tried to find out.
Researchers used electro-encephalographs to examine brain responses in
12-week-old babies as they looked at different toys. Their findings were similar to those in adults who were paying
attention to toys.
But there was one main difference: Babies looked at peripheral objects
before focusing on a central object. Researchers
call it "visual foraging".
They suspect it
helps babies form a clearer picture to explore their new world and later learn
to reach and grasp things.
