Eau Claire (WQOW)- Federal money could help strengthen a county program aimed at keeping people out of jail.
The Eau Claire County Human Services Department received a three year federal grant for its treatment court programs. Currently the county has four treatment courts including Veterans Court and Drug Court.
The 1.2 million dollar grant will go towards training staff and improving the programs.
"We're going to do an even better job in offering treatment to the treatment court participants, that's state of the art, that's shown to be effective," said Roy Sargeant, Eau Claire County Department of Human Services.
The goal behind treatment court programs is to cut down on the number of repeat offenders. Eau Claire County was one of 11 jurisdictions in the United States to receive this grant.
