Area counties form consortium to help the poor

Eau Claire (WQOW)- Ten area counties are joining together to help low-income families.

Eau Claire County will lead the new Great Rivers Income Maintenance Consortium. The group will oversee eligibility for programs such as BadgerCare Plus and FoodShare. The goal is to make the programs more efficient.

"We think it's going to be better, better service, more effective service, hopefully and one that can be delivered within limits of the dollars that are available," said Roy Sargeant, Eau Claire County Department of Human Services.

The group is being formed because of a state law passed in 2011.
