Bomb squad disposes of old dynamite discovered in Rusk County

Posted:

Rusk County (WQOW) - A bomb squad was needed in Rusk County on Friday.  Dynamite was found at an old farm.

It happened south of Weyerhaeuser.  The Rusk County sheriff says the Marathon County Bomb Squad was called in because old dynamite is volatile and can be set off by just movement.  The bomb squad came in and disposed of it.  No one was hurt and there was no damage.

The sheriff says over the years, they've received similar calls like this because people would store dynamite after getting blasting permits to do things like clear land.  The unused dynamite would be discovered at a later date.
