Eau Claire (WQOW) -- The slide continues for the Express, which loses for the 16th time in the last 20 games, as Battle Creek beats Eau Claire, 7-1, in front of an announced crowd of 2,173 at Carson Park.

Express starter Tony Vocca gives up a pair of first-inning runs as the Bombers build a lead that they'd never relinquish.

Eau Claire is blanked on no hits through three innings by Battle Creek starter Joe Battistelli, but Ty Forney breaks up the no-hitter and later scores on a Josh Scheffert single.  The Express goes on to load the bases with one out, but Jimmy Young bounces into a 5-3 inning-ending double play.

"We can't seem to catch a break right now," says Scheffert, "but I don't think we really deserve to catch a break.  You kind of have to earn those types of things, you know they've earned them, so they got their breaks tonight, hopefully tomorrow we can earn ours."

"It's kind of our season right now," Express manager Dale Varsho says, "we've just got to produce a lot better and hopefully, you know we're capable of being really really good. Hopefully we can click sometime and start early pretty soon."

The two teams will play game two of their series Tuesday night at Carson Park.
