Governor tours flooding damage in northwestern Wisconsin

Posted:

Superior (WQOW) - Governor Walker was in northwestern Wisconsin to check out flood damage first hand.

On Tuesday, the governor says he plans to declare a state of emergency following heavy rain and flooding in Douglas, Ashland and Bayfield counties.  The downpour last week caused power outages, closed roads and left the basements of buildings on the UW-Superior campus underwater.

"One of the interesting things for us, and having gone through it personally both as a homeowner and a county official, days like today are easier to see what the damage is," says Gov. Scott Walker, (R) Wisconsin.

The governor's office estimates flood waters damaged more than 500 homes and businesses and caused $2.5 million in damage to public infrastructure.  Some roads remain under water.
