Recommendation to extend sand mining moratorium

Dunn County (WQOW) - A Dunn County committee, looking into sand mining, is hoping to buy more time.

On Tuesday, the Dunn County Planning, Resources and Development Committee voted 5-0 to recommend extending the county's sand mining moratorium by up to three months.  As of now, the moratorium would expire at the end of July.  The committee says it's in the process of working on a new non-metallic mining ordinance and may need more time to do the job.

A committee member says it's possible they could be done soon, so the extension wouldn't be needed, but in case they aren't, they'd like to know they have more time.  The county board would need to sign off on any extension.
