Press Release from the Pierce County Sheriff's Department: On June 29, 2012 at 8:55 pm, Pierce County Sheriff's Department was notified of a body in the water near the Railroad Lift Bridge on the St. Croix River. This area is near the public boat dock near the railroad bridge.
A citizen had been near the public dock area and observed the body in the water. Officers responded and located the body and this was the same person that had been missing since Tuesday, June 26, 2012.
Merriett M. Maul, 65 years of age, Welch, MN was pronounced dead at the scene by the Pierce County Medical Examiner.
There is no foul play suspected in this investigation.

Pierce Co. (Press Release) -- On Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at approximately 8:17 p.m., the Pierce County Sheriff's Department was notified of a possible drowning on the St. Croix River in Prescott.
A 65-year-old male was reported to have fallen off of a dock into the St. Croix River and did not resurface. Water Patrol did attempt to locate the victim using divers and sonar equipment, but was unsuccessful. The search for the victim will continue Wednesday.
The Pierce County Sheriff's Department was assisted on-scene by the Prescott Fire/Ambulance, the Prescott Dive Team, Dakota County Sheriff's Department, Washington County Sheriff's Department and St. Croix County Sheriff's Department/Dive Team. The incident is still under investigation.
