(CNN) - Families
will pay a pretty penny to keep their children busy this summer. According to new data from
American Express, the 2012 summer break is set to cost the average American
family $600. Affluent families are expected to dish out nearly double
that amount.
The
study looked at a random sample of about 2,000 adults. Most parents say
they plan to spend a chunk of that money on trips to places like theme parks, but
day camps are expected to be the biggest expense.
