Eau Claire (WQOW)- Thursday's health care announcement could mean big things for this year's presidential election.
WQOW reached out to a political analyst at UW-Eau Claire to get his take on what Thursday's announcement could mean come November.
"Overall it's hard not to see this as a win for Obama at this point. His signature domestic policy has been upheld. He will be able to run on that. There's a lot he can do with that in terms of trying to attract young voters and things like that," explains UW-Eau Claire Political Science Professor Geoff Peterson. "For republicans, it means they really have to shift gears because I think many of them expected this to be struck down. So now the strategy for them will have to be something like elect Mitt Romney and a republican congress so that we can repeal this; and of course just because the Supreme Court said its constitutional doesn't mean it has to stay in the books."
Republicans say they plan to repeal Obama's health care plan. But Peterson says that would most likely only be accepted if they can come up with an alternative plan of their own.
