MADISON (AP) - The state elections board is creating a website to help
military and overseas voters from Wisconsin request absentee ballots.
Currently, Wisconsin voters who are overseas have to
contact their municipal clerks directly to have absentee ballots sent to them.
But the Government Accountability Board is developing a single website to
simplify the process.
Board spokesman Reid Magney says those voters will simply
enter their information and the site will let them print out a proper absentee
ballot for that election. The site will also provide the necessary information
for mailing the ballot to the correct clerk.
Magney says the site should be finished by
mid-September.
A Wisconsin Public Radio report (http://bit.ly/KUu9a1 ) says the project is being paid for
through a $1.9 million grant from the Defense Department.
