Chippewa County (WQOW) - The Chippewa County district attorney will speak to the media about the boat crash investigation on Wednesday.

District Attorney Steve Gibbs says he will make a statement and answer limited questions about the investigation into last July's fatal crash on the Chippewa River.  Four people died in that crash when two boats collided.  Recently, the investigation wrapped up and was sent to Gibbs.  Last week, he said he was in the process of reviewing the case and was unsure when he would make a decision on whether to file charges.

Wednesday's press conference will be held at 3 p.m.  WQOW News 18 will have a crew there.

Last week's story

Chippewa County (WQOW) - The investigation into a fatal boat crash is now in the hands of the district attorney.

It's been almost a year since four people died when two boats collided on the Chippewa River.  A speed boat and deck boat collided.  The deck boat was filled with a wedding party.  At least three wrongful death lawsuits have been filed alleging that one or both boat operators were negligent.

Many questions remain about what happened that night, including what the blood alcohol level was for the speedboat operator who was killed and what the accident reconstruction showed.  That's all part of the investigation being reviewed by Chippewa County District Attorney Steve Gibbs.  Gibbs says the report fills a large three-ring binder.  He says he doesn't know when he'll make a decision on whether to file charges.
