Pepin County (WQOW) - In less than three weeks a man with a long history of sexual assaults will be released to live near a small area community.
Kerry Abbott is considered to be a sexually violent person. Officials say he has admitted to nine sexual assaults or attempted assaults in Pepin and Dunn counties, usually while armed. He has been in custody and receiving treatment since 1985 when he was found not guilty by insanity.
But in January a judge found that Abbott meets the criteria to be released under supervision. That includes electronic and GPS monitoring, and he must be escorted every time he leaves his home.
Abbott will be released before the end of the month and will live along County Highway D near Arkansaw.
A meeting to notify area residents is set for Wednesday, July 11th at 6 p.m. at the Arkansaw Elementary School.
