Fire danger could be on the rise with dry spell

Posted:

Eau Claire (WQOW) - The fire danger has been low the last few days, but a dry spell could change that.

Right now, the fire danger across much of western and northern Wisconsin is listed as low to moderate.  The only exceptions are Buffalo, Trempealeau and Jackson counties where the fire danger is high.

"Humidity is high now and it has greened up considerably but without any rain the fire danger increases every day and this is the time of year when all the vacationers are out and so there is a lot more activity outdoors," says Fire Chief Ken Zich, Augusta-Bridge Creek Fire Department.  "So people need to be real careful and mindful of that when they have campfires and smoking and things like that."

Burning restrictions are in place in eleven counties in the southern part of the state.
