Eau Claire (WQOW) -
An Eau Claire woman will be
running nearly every day for a year for charity. Sarah Newcomb will run 5
kilometers, 6 days a week from now June of next year; raising money for local
charities along the way.
"In some ways it
was also just a way to deal with life. Instead of eating, or doing other things
that are sedentary, you're out running."
As a way to keep her mind off the
challenges many face these days, Sarah Newcomb got back into running.
"I've just always
enjoyed running. In high school I was in track and cross country, and over the
years it's just always been a passion of mine to run."
After her husband lost his job three
years ago, times got tough for their family of five. The budget was tight, but
having family helped her get by, and also helped develop a giving attitude.
"I was always thinking
about people that had it even harder than I did. When I'd start complaining, or
start worrying about how we would make ends meet. In the back of my mind, I was
always like, "There's someone that needs more than I have, and I need to
be grateful."
So Sarah decided to give back. She
will run around three miles almost every day-- raising funds for a different
charity every month along the way. She will raise money by selling water
bottles from a website supportsarahsrun.com, which she will also update with
her progress.
"They'll always
have to do with children, or families. Something that helps, it's usually going
to be children based, because there are so many kids out there without what
they need."
This month, Sarah will be donating
to the beacon house homeless shelter. For more information, click here
