Altoona (WQOW)- Dog owners could get their pooches some exercise while helping out a local park.
Staff at Lake Altoona County Park is asking for volunteers to bring their dogs to the beach for about one to two hours every morning to help scare away the geese. The geese have started to over populate the beach and their droppings can cause a bacteria problem.
Right now park staff spends about two hours cleaning up the beach every morning; they hope that the presence of the dogs will help keep the geese from nesting near the beach.
"If we can make the area not so comfortable for the geese to spend the night then if they're some place else well then we don't have as much clean up to do every morning," said Mike Torud, Eau Claire County Parks & Forest director.
If you are interested in signing up to volunteer call the park ranger at 834-9042.
