Minneapolis hotel processing own honey

Minneapolis (KSTP) - The W Hotel in downtown Minneapolis has always prided itself on offering guests a wide variety of unique amenities. In a few weeks it will be able to offer something no other hotel does. There are 120,000 new guests at the W Hotel, that have everyone buzzing. The hotel is making its own honey.

Before the summer is over, they'll make about 100 pounds of it. It has a distinct taste based on the flowers and nectar in the neighborhood. A taste that will distinctly belong to the W.

According to the bee keeper Susan Brown, "This has a strong flower taste. It's very buttery. There's a touch of Basswood which adds a minty flavor to it."

The honey will mainly be used to make signature bon bons. This latest batch will make about 12,000 bon bons that guests might find on their pillows or served with champagne.

Susan Mabry with the W Hotel says, "That's a continuation of the W philosophy of being edgy in getting to what's next and next after next. It fits out brand and our value perfectly."

The W's honey won't be processed, and won't be exposed to pesticides. Brown says it's as pure as you can get...and perfect for hotel guests who have a taste for the finer things.

The honey will be harvested in two weeks and those custom bon bons will start appearing in the guest rooms in September.
