Fire causes $40,000 in damage to Chippewa Falls home

Chippewa Falls (Press Release) - The Chippewa Falls Fire & Emergency Services Department & the Chippewa Falls Police Departments were called to a structure fire located at 1122 Perry Street on the city's west hill at 7:42 pm on Sunday, July 7th.

Upon arrival, units found heavy black smoke coming from the front door and basement windows of the one story ranch home. Two people inside the house (Gail Fox & Douglas Fox) safely escaped after being alerted to a sounding smoke alarm. Firefighters extinguished a basement fire in the home within 20 minutes.
 
Fire investigation revealed that the origin of the fire to be in the southwest area of the basement.
 
Fire investigation also revealed that the cause of the fire appears to be overheated electrical wiring.
 
Damage is estimated at $40,000. The home is owned by Gail Fox.
 
The Western Wisconsin Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting with the needs of the residents.
