Eau Claire (WQOW)- An east coast educator could soon call Eau Claire home. The Eau Claire school board has selected its next superintendent: Dr. Mary Ann Hardebeck.
"She has a very scholarly approach but a very practical approach and I think her practicality and her down to earth way of interacting with the community, with staff really set her apart," said Carol Craig, Eau Claire School Board president.
Dr. Hardebeck is currently an assistant superintendent of a school in Virginia. That district has 66,000 students. She began her career as a reading and english teacher and was once principal of the year in North Carolina. Thursday, she talked about the transition she'll make.
"The school district has already done some work in terms of their post secondary plans and so I think initially what we're going to do is look at that plan and look at the goals from that plan and see what could be operationalized or timelined through a strategic plan so that will be part of the work with the board. I'm looking forward to getting started and I think that this is going to be a great place to work," said Dr. Mary Ann Hardebeck.
"One of her main areas of expertise is strategic planning and the Eau Claire strategic plan needs to be updated and so I think ultimately once she finds her feet on the ground here in Eau Claire strategic planning process will be an important part," added Craig.
It could take a week or two to finalize the contract details.
