WAUSAU (WAOW) - A Wausau health insurance office may close, and hundreds
of people could lose their jobs.
Employees at WPS Health Insurance were told the office may
close after a $17 billion government contract was not renewed.
The claims for that contract were handled by WPS for
TriWest Healthcare Alliance, which benefits 2.9 million military members and
their families in 21 states.
But a $20 billion contract was recently awarded to
UnitedHealth Military & Veterans Services, despite an appeal.
WPS executives declined a recorded interview. However, the senior vice president says they aren't
sure how many jobs will be affected or when it would happen. Officials say
they're evaluating their options.
TriWest's current contract runs through March 31, 2013.
