MADISON (WKOW) -- A child stabbed on Madison's west side has been taken to an area hospital.

Police say the child was stabbed by another child on the 1600-block of Capital Avenue. They received the call just before 6:00 p.m.

According to Lt. John Patterson, the young victim was stabbed in the lower abdomen. He could not confirm whether his injuries are life-threatening, but Patterson did say the victim was talking at the scene.

"There was some sort of disturbance, but we think it was a playful one, at least at first, between two juveniles. At some point the young boy was injured. So, we're still trying to determine if this was an intentional act or accidental," Patterson tells 27 News.

The young suspected stabber stayed on the scene. Police did not confirm the ages of the two kids involved, or the weapon used.
