New portion of Water Street Mile brings out runners

Posted:

Eau Claire (WQOW) - A new portion of a local charity race had runners up early in Eau Claire this morning.

The Water Street Mile added a 5k option for those wishing to compete in the 13th annual event. Around 300 people competed in the event. People of all ages turned out to either walk or run, but it was the runners that helped spur the new challenge.

"Extending the course really was their idea. Many of the one-milers were saying "Hey we'd like to go a little bit longer," and so that was the impetus for doing the 5k," said race co-director Mary Pica-Anderson.

All proceeds from the event go towards the L.E. Phillips Senior Center.
