Tilden (WQOW) - A tractor- trailer carrying hay caught fire Sunday afternoon, shutting
down lanes of Highway 53 for hours. No one was injured. This is a photo sent in
by a viewer to our Facebook page. The Tilden Fire Department says they believe
a spark from the smoke stack may have started the fire. Southbound Highway 53 was rerouted for
about five hours as crews fought the fire. It did spread to the grass nearby,
but crews were able to put it out. The tractor was damaged in the fire, but the
trailer and half the load of hay was able to be saved.

approximately 4 hours until roadway was cleared. There were no injuries related
to the incident.
