Neumann, Hovde report fundraising totals

Posted:
MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate Mark Neumann says he raised $733,000 in the second quarter of the year, while challenger Eric Hovde says he raised about $237,000.

Neumann and Hovde announced the totals on Monday. Former Gov. Tommy Thompson and state Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald are also running in the GOP primary.

The actual filings made with the Federal Election Commission were not immediately available, but both the Neumann and Hovde campaigns put out statements with their totals.

Hovde spokesman Sean Lansing says the fact that Hovde has been able to raise what he did as a political newcomer is "remarkable."

Neumann spokesman Chip Englander says the former congressman has saved his money and plans to "dominate the airwaves" leading up to the Aug. 14 primary.
