Eau Claire (WQOW) - UW-Eau Claire campus has been a busy place this
summer. Crews started demolition on the
old Davies Center on Friday. That work
is expected to wrap up in a few weeks.
Meanwhile,
construction continued today on the new Davies Center.
Most staff members have already moved into the
building and will spend the next few weeks getting used to the new layout. The 170,000
square foot building is scheduled to be completed before the majority of
students return to campus in August.
"We really are on schedule to complete all our projects as we
anticipated. And that really is a testament to all the people who are working
in facilities management, who are working in facilities planning, or working
with the division of state facilities. It's a team effort, and of course then
the contractors that have constructed the buildings and are doing that work for
us," said UW-Eau Claire Communications Executive Director Mike Rindo.
Not
only is construction on schedule, but the budget is as well. The building has a
price tag just shy of $49 million. It's being paid for through student fees.
