TOMAHAWK (WAOW) - Two people were seriously injured after being burned by
fly ash, a product typically produced during the combustion of coal. The
incident happened early Tuesday morning at Packaging Corporation of America in
Tomahawk.
The human resources manager says the investigation into
what happened is still in the very early stages. But, he does say the two were
contractors, not PCA employees.
The company produces container board and corrugated
packaging.
The extent of the injuries is not known. Company
spokesperson says they were taken by helicopter to an area hospital.
This is not the first time there has been an incident at
this location. In July of 2008 a recycled fiber storage tank exploded, killing
three employees and injuring a fourth.
The Lincoln County Sheriff's office is currently
investigating the incident.
