Eau Claire (WQOW) - A local man who murdered his ex-wife nearly three decades ago wants to be released.
It was in 1983 that John J. Brown stabbed his ex-wife 23 times. It happened at Rose Brown's home on Vine Street in Eau Claire. John Brown was found innocent by insanity and sent to a mental institution, where he has been for the last 28 years.
Now, Brown is petitioning an Eau Claire judge to allow him to be released with conditions. The judge will appoint a psychiatrist to examine him.
Brown also sought release five years ago. At that time, psychiatrists were divided on whether he could be released without posing a danger to himself or others.
