Eau Claire (WQOW) -- For a second straight night at Carson Park, the Express builds a lead but can't hold on, eventually losing in extra innings.
La Crosse improves to 7-0 this season versus Eau Claire, as the Loggers rally from a 4-0 deficit with a run in the fifth inning, one in the sixth, two in the seventh, and one in the eleventh to defeat the Express, 5-4.
Eau Claire mistakes are key in La Crosse's rally. Joe Meggs delivers a two-run single in the 7th to tie the game, but his hit follows a dropped fly ball by Express right fielder Tim Zier. The winning run scores when Eau Claire fails to cover first on a bunt by Brandon Bednar, allowing Matt Chapman to score La Crosse's fifth run.
The Express gets the tying run on base in the bottom of the eleventh when Will Fadness singles to right, but the rally dies when Josh Scheffert flies out, Alex Real pops up, and pinch runner Nick Addison is caught stealing.
Eau Claire breaks a scoreless tie with a four-run fourth inning, including a two-run single to shallow right by Tyler Wampler. Later that inning, the game is delayed 85 minutes by rain.
The two teams will play Thursday night at Copeland Park in La Crosse.
