Marshfield Clinic cutting workforce

MARSHFIELD, Wis. (AP) -- Marshfield Clinic says it's cutting its workforce because of reduced patient demand.

Along with reducing hours for some employees and not filling some open positions, the health care system plans to cut 119 jobs. In a statement, Chief Operating Officer Jim Coleman also cites the sluggish economy, the growth of high-deductible health insurance plans and changes in the national health care system that alter reimbursement as the driving forces behind the layoffs.

WSAW-TV says Marshfield Clinic has 8,000 employees, two hospitals and 57 clinics throughout Wisconsin.
