Chippewa County (WQOW) – A referendum won't be headed to the ballot in Chippewa County.
Earlier this week, the Chippewa County Executive Committee discussed whether or not to put a referendum question on the November ballot. It would ask voters if the U.S. Constitution should be amended to say limiting political contributions and spending is not a limit on the freedom of speech. The measure is in response to a 2010 Supreme Court ruling allowing corporations to spend unlimited amounts of money on elections.
The committee decided not to move forward with the referendum. The committee had concerns about the language of the referendum and wanted to review it before making a recommendation to the county board at its August meeting.
