Casey Gillaspie hits two homers, but the Express lose to WisconsinEau Claire (WQOW) -- The Express enter the Northwoods League all star break with a thud, falling to the Woodchucks 12-3 at Carson Park.
Eau Claire's struggles began in the 1st, with Sean Renzi struggling on the mound, allowing two runs. Renzi would hit the Northwoods League's pitches limit for an inning, and was forced to leave the game. Reliever Matt Lynch faired much worse, allowing seven runs to score on eight hits in 1.1 innings of work. Lynch would pick up the loss. The lone bright spot for the Express was Casey Gillaspie, who smacked two home runs in the loss.
"We came out of the gates really really badly defensively and pitching wise, and you can't overcome what they did in the first three innings," says manager Dale Varsho. "I mean that's a shame and really a lack of effort and a lack of concentration of just throwing strikes and getting ahead."
The Express are off for three days during the all-star break. Eau Claire sends five representatives to Tuesday's game in Madison, with Gillaspie also competing in the home run contest.
