Prescott (WQOW) - A western Wisconsin city will pay $40,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by a business.
That's one of the terms of a settlement between the City of Prescott and Victory Fireworks. The business sued the city last year for $2.5 million.
Victory claimed the city enacted an ordinance requiring fireworks be stored at least 500 feet from a home. The previous rule was 50 feet. The company says it should have been grandfathered-in, or compensated for the cost of moving all of its fireworks to other buildings.
Victory also said the city started handing out citations, and threatened fines of $500 a day. The firm also accused some city officials of conspiring to destroy or hide public records.
The settlement allows Victory to continue storing fireworks if it installs a sprinkler system and stores only consumer-grade fireworks. The settlement will be paid by the city's insurance company.
