Eau Claire County (WQOW) - One of the drivers in Friday's fatal crash on Clairemont Avenue has now been cited for homicide by drunk driving.
That's according to the Eau Claire County Sheriffs Department, which says Travis Hazelton, from Eau Claire, was ticketed for homicide by drunk driving. A decision on criminal charges will be up to the district attorney.
The sheriff's department says Hazelton was driving a mini-van that slammed into the back of a line of six vehicles at a stop light at the intersection with Cameron Street. His passenger, 26-year-old Jesse Schreiner was killed. Four others were hurt including Hazelton. He remains hospitalized. The conditions of the others is not known.
Moments before the crash police had received a call about a driver who appeared to be under the influence. The sheriff's office will now do a re-construction of the crash, which is expected to take some time due to the number of vehicles involved.
