Eau Claire (WQOW) - A strange slime is popping up in the area. You may have noticed a yellow or orange colored slime appearing on wood chips in some Eau Claire parks.
According to the DNR, the slime is an amoeba that grows in the hot and humid weather. It may look gross and dangerous, but wildlife experts say it's pretty much harmless to humans and animals.
"Some people can have allergic reactions like Rhinitis but it's not something that is a serious concern," says DNR Forester Chris Widstrand.
The substance can show up at any time but generally dries out and turns a black color a day or two after it appears.
