Madison (WQOW) -- Alex Real and Ty Forney of the Eau Claire Express hit back-to-back homers in the 6th inning to help lift the South over the North, 4-3, in the 18th-annual Northwoods League All-Star Game, played in front of 6,073 fans at Madison's Warner Park.
Casey Gillaspie of the Express starts at first base, but in the 3rd inning, leaves the game after being hit in the head by a pitch. Eau Claire's infielder Josh Scheffert and pitcher Andrew Hedrick also appear in the game.
Menomonie natives Tanner and Trey Vavra, sons of Twins hitting coach Joe Vavra, both see playing time for the North, with each getting a base hit.
In the Home Run Derby, Gillaspie finishes second to Trevor Podratz of the Rochester Honkers. Gillaspie, a switch-hitter, slugged homers from both sides of the plate, winding up with five homers in the first round, three in the second, with six coming in the finals.
